It’s funny how many story can be told about a single day- because really, it all comes down to perspective. The Fourth of July can mean so many things- and earlier on the Blog, I shared a few fun ways to shake up your storytelling of the Holiday (check it out here) – and shift your perspective a bit. But, sometimes, you want to go with the good ol’ stand-by photos, the never fail, traditional photos that you love taking every year. And that’s a pretty cool story in itself- isn’t it?
When you take the same photo every year- the changes that happen become a story in themselves! For example, we take the obligatory Old Navy T-shirt family photo every year- and man! it’s awesome to see how the boys have grown! I only wish I had saved the shirts over the years-they would have made a cool quilt!
Here’s a fun list of classic shots that never fail that you may want to keep in mind this holiday:
- Flag-tastic Fun: The waving flag is a must-have. Whether it’s on a flagpole, draped over a porch, or held by a proud kiddo, this shot is always a winner. Aim for that perfect angle with the stars and stripes fluttering in the breeze. Oh say, can you see…the perfect photo?
- Grill Master in Action: Capture Uncle Bob flipping burgers with his signature grin and “Kiss the Cook” apron. The sizzling sound, the smoky aroma, and Bob’s enthusiasm make this a classic shot every time. Grillin’ and chillin’!
- Sparkler Spectacular: Kids with sparklers never get old. Get creative with long exposures to capture those magical light trails. Faces aglow with joy and wonder – it’s pure Fourth of July magic. Light up the night!
- Picnic Table Spread: Document the feast! From juicy watermelons to mouth-watering burgers, a well-set picnic table brimming with food is a staple. The more colorful and abundant, the better. Foodie heaven!
- Matchy-Matchy Madness: Family group photos in matching red, white, and blue outfits are always adorable. Whether it’s t-shirts, hats, or full-on costumes, these photos showcase your patriotic spirit and unity. Say “cheese” with extra stars and stripes!
- Fireworks Extravaganza: Fireworks are the grand finale of any Fourth of July celebration. Capture the brilliant explosions in the sky, and don’t forget the awe-struck faces watching below. It’s a blast every time!
- Patriotic Pets: Dress up your pets in stars-and-stripes bandanas or tiny hats. Whether they’re posing or playing, pets add a fun and heartwarming touch to your album. Paws-itively adorable!
- Face Paint Fun: Kids (and adults) with their faces painted like flags, eagles, or fireworks bring an extra splash of color to your photos. Capture those smiles before the paint starts to melt in the summer heat. Face the fun!
- Parade Perfection: Parades are full of energy and color. Get shots of vibrant floats, marching bands, and enthusiastic crowds. Whether it’s a big city parade or a local one, these photos capture community spirit at its best. Float on!
- Lawn Game Laughs: Cornhole, sack races, and tug-of-war – lawn games are a blast. Capture the action, the competition, and the laughter. These candid shots are sure to bring back happy memories. Game on!
Scrapbooking is all about preserving memories, and freezing the moment.
So, no matter what photos you take, make sure to tell the story behind the shots. Describe your favorite Fourth of July traditions or the best (or worst!) fireworks display you’ve ever seen. Talk about the recipes that make the day special, the outfits, the planning and preparation, the music that set the mood, and favorite childhood memories. Describe your emotions while watching fireworks or the parade or bbq highlights. The magic of it all is once you do this- you have hit pause on a little bit of joy, and that’s why we do this, isn’t it?
